A lasting legacy: A generous estate gift received by Breakthrough T1D

Breakthrough T1D has received an incredibly generous gift from the estate of the Honorable Maryanne Trump Barry. The late Judge Barry, who had retired from the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, was committed to breaking down barriers and ensuring a brighter future for those with type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Breakthrough T1D works to open doors that were once closed by diagnosis. We connect the brightest minds to advance treatments, influence policy and improve global access to care. Judge Barry's family is excited to support this strategy as we aim to usher in our first wave of functional cures for T1D.

"Our family appreciates the data-driven approach Breakthrough T1D takes to develop game-changing advancements for all who live with T1D. From cutting-edge technology to functional cures—the research team has multiple shots on goal and only allocates funding toward projects that hold the most promise," says Barry's son.

Judge Barry's legacy lives on through her family, and the positive impact her generous support will have on millions around the globe as we continue to drive toward cures for T1D.

"Support, such as the estate gift from Judge Maryanne Trump Barry, allows Breakthrough T1D to continue accelerating research and driving innovation; and we are so grateful. Cures for T1D are not a matter of if but when. We are closer than ever to taking off our devices and walking away from the condition for good," says Aaron Kowalski, Ph.D, Breakthrough T1D CEO.
